Everyone should read this book. For most people, it's a bit hard to understand at first because they may not have the right mindset to comprehend what Grant is trying to convey. As the title said it, you are either selling your beliefs and convictions (whether they are ideas, products or services) or you are sold with the same. For example, you bought the idea that going to college, getting a good job will help you with financial independence? Who sold this idea to you? Your parents, families and friends? Instead you need to sell yourself the right information which allows you to get what you want in life. If you are not happy with your life currently then you must ask yourself who sold me such plan and why am I stuck with it? Go out and buy a better plan, one that you'll be happy with.
most of the book is rambling and repetition of general points. there are some interesting concepts in the book but the all lead to buying more of his material. by the time i got through the fluff i was already annoyed. basically that if you do not believe in your product you cannot adequately sell it. it repeats that and a couple of other goodies like 900 times in a row.a mock example{believe in yourself. in your product your belief needs to be strong. *example showing why it is important* then a see don't you see that is why being sold on your own goods is so important! *rinse repeat*}i have bought his mastering objections course and the books were even more haphazardly constructed, but the videos are not bad and can actually teach some stuff. i like his videos way more than his books.
Sell or Be Sold:That's not only the name but also a philosophy about life. Grant does a great job explaining that when dealing with anything in life you can either choose to sell or persuade the world to get behind your ideas, beliefs, and dreams... OR get sold on others perspectives.He also does a great job detailing the most important thing about salesmanship. This idea is about what makes a good salesman.Many say a good salesman can sell ice in an igloo or sell water doing a thunderstorm or whatever else is unnecessary. Grant takes an opposite approach. He states that to be able to be a good salesman you have to be SOLD on your product or service. That's the key.The most important sale you can make is to yourself. By being sold yourself on your product it allows you to sell it. If you don't believe wholeheartedly in your product you need to get a new job or start a new business. That's the key.For example, Grant states a vegetarian should not work at steakhouse. Why? They are selling meat, of which, they do not eat. It's hard to sell something you, yourself are not sold on. That's his point. Get sold on your product and then it will be easier to sell to others. Grant's book is a great one. Read it. There are somethings I don't particularly think are right about sales or life in general, but it doesn't detract from his central message.Be Sold on what you have to offer the world and it will be much easier to get people behind your ideas and passions.
I've listened to and read dozens of sales books. It in the 4 months since I've read this book I made $10,000 more than I did last year at the same time, and the business was SLOWER this year. Can't recommend enough!
Another user stated it correctly in that there is a lot of fluff and repetitions. not a whole lot of deep insights, in fact if you wanted the main points of the book, just read through the Amazon reviews and you'll see the main points. I've seen his videos and his videos do provide better insights. If you're starting out in sales for the first time ever, this might be helpful in serving as a pep rally to get you fired up about it, but if you'd done sales for a year or more, these are things you should already know or trained on.
this is an exact copy of his book "IF UR NOT FIRST UR LAST"... it does not say that anywhere... i therefore bought 2 identical books for no reason what so ever.
This is one of the best books I have ever read about selling and closing. I am in the Automotive Industry, an industry with a lot of negative preconceived views. The dealership I work for embodies and employs every single one of the aspects listed in the book and has had tremendous success doing so. I look forward to practicing and making the skills my own and become one of the top Automotive Salespeople in the country.
